A Grounding Technique
First, sit upright in a chair in an open body position. By “open body” I mean avoid crossing any part of your body, such as ankles, legs, arms, or hands (see figure 2 on page 79). This position helps your body relax and encourages your energy to flow. Now, remove your shoes, and place your feet flat on the floor, or on a pillow on the floor, if your feet don't touch. Removing your shoes gives your feet the opportunity to relax as well as giving you a chance to make direct contact with the floor. Wearing socks is fine. It can be distracting and uncomfortable if your feet get cold.
